Arc Flash University: Arc Flash and PPE
July 17, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. PDT/1:00 p.m. CDT/2:00 p.m. EDT

One of the most important aspects of arc flash safety is wearing proper protective equipment every time you are working on live equipment. The kind of PPE needed varies with the hazard, and everyone who works on electrical equipment needs to know what each situation calls for. But PPE is also a human issue, requiring workers to be diligent about using the proper PPE regardless of conditions. This fifth Webcast in the Arc Flash University series looks at PPE from both the hazard and human side to provide a comprehensive look at safety in arc flash situations.

Arc Flash University: Selective Coordination
June 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. PDT/1:00 p.m. CDT/2:00 p.m. EDT
In the fourth class at Arc Flash University, we take a look at selective coordination – the process of clearing an electrical fault as quickly as possible while containing the outage to the smallest possible area. When selective coordination is done properly, the overcurrent protective device installed closest to the fault opens before protective devices installed upstream. Localizing the outage improves uptime by keeping power going to the rest of the plant.

Mobility: Your Ticket to Better Maintenance
Thursday, June 19, 2008 11am PST/1pm CST/2pm EST
There are proven and reliably deployed technologies today that address the pressure on operations to do more with less. You bear the responsibility to ensure assets and facilities are productive and always available. Using mobile, you can finally realize your enterprise systems full potential with uniform, complete, and timely data that your system and standardized processes need to be most effective. Hear success stories on how leading firms have leveraged ATM-friendly mobile solutions to improve the company’s bottom line.
In this session, you’ll learn how mobile enables organizations to:- Increase “wrench time” with greater productivity and streamlined operations
- Access valuable work detail at the point of performance for higher first time fix rates
- Increase planned work possible when capturing timely and accurate data
- Enhance reporting capabilities for best-practices and compliance statements
Who should attend:
-Management responsible for field service, plant and facilities management
-IT who support field service, plant and facilities management
Speakers: Bob Vavra, Editor, Plant Engineering
Joe Granda, Executive Vice President, Syclo

Arc Flash Training
Thursday, April 3, 2008 11am PST/1pm CST/2pm EST
The biggest variable in achieving arc flash safety isn’t your equipment; it’s your people. Making sure they are aware at all times of the dangers of electrical equipment and work to maintain their safety and the integrity of the equipment is vital. Industry experts give you a step-by-step training regimen for arc flash training.

Electrical Safety Webcast: You've Completed an Arc Flash Study, Now What?
Thursday, March 27, 2008, 11:00am PST/1:00pm CST/2:00pm EST
You've completed an arc flash study. Now what?
You realize the safety concern, business risk and cost of an arc flash incident. You've taken some steps to address it and you've discovered several potential areas in your facility where the hazards are great. But have you evaluated the solutions? Are you aware that you have many options to mitigate high risk areas? An arc flash safety program is more than just compliance to OSHA mandates. It should be a pro-active program that integrates a wide range of solutions into a comprehensive plan to minimize the personnel safety and business risks posed by Arc Flash incidents.
This webcast will provide the framework for a new way of looking at the problem from a broader perspective. We will feature arc flash mitigating techniques ranging from equipment labeling and personnel training, through solutions that reduce the available fault current, shorten fault clearing time, move people away from the arc, redirect the arc fault and even prevent the fault from occurring in the first place. We will also give you a look at the problem from a federal/regulatory viewpoint and we will offer some insights from people at the plant level who grapple with this issue every day.

Process manufacturers, their suppliers and federal agencies are always looking for the tightest safeguards to maintain the balance between safety and productivity. The use of food-grade lubricants is one solution, but eliminating oil from the process is an even higher goal.
The air compressor industry is meeting international testing requirements to eliminate any oil contamination in the process industries – not just food, but petrochemical, semiconductor and pharmaceutical manufacturing as well. Meeting the Class Zero designation from testing agency TUV is an important step in assuring non contamination in these critical manufacturing processes.
Dave Hebert of Atlas Copco will discuss this technological breakthrough that eliminates one of the variables that can affect contamination in the processing industries at a Plant Engineering Webcast on Tuesday, December 11th at 1 p.m. CST. In a discussion moderated by Plant Engineering editor Bob Vavra, Hebert will talk about Class Zero, why it is important to the process industry and how this technology makes compressors better and safer for everyone involved in manufacturing.
